The BAME Apprenticeship Awards 2020 Apprentice Finalists have been released and our Digital Marketing Apprentice Shekinah Yuhanna has been shortlisted for the Media and Marketing Apprentice 2020.

With over 300 nominations for the awards received nationally across a wide range of categories, Shekinah has done extremely well to have fought off some very tough competition to become a Finalist.

While this year hasn’t been easy for anyone, we have seen true resilience from apprentices who have had to deal with an unprecedented scenario. COVID 19 is a historic moment and while I thought we would be forced to cancel the awards, the overwhelming response we have received has been humbling, to say the least,”
says Kasim Choudhry director of Thinkfest.

The BAME Apprenticeship Awards in partnership with Pearson showcases the outstanding work and achievement of apprentices from black and minority ethnic groups (BAME) and inspires BAME apprentices to reach their full potential.

The awards also raise the profile of employers and training providers across the UK, who are championing the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Winning employers have showcased their diversity and inclusion strategies and how it’s helped them to shape an inclusive and diverse work environment as best practice examples for other organisations to follow suit. The awards platform has been instrumental in creating future leaders and ambassadors for Apprenticeships and brought to the forefront of key issues surrounding the need for more diversity within particular sectors.

Shekinah has said:

I am delighted and proud to be shortlisted for this award. Over the past year, I have found and gained so much confidence in my myself, not only in my professional abilities but also on a personal level. As a young adult leaving university and stepping into a new type of learning I was very anxious about doing an apprenticeship, however, it has proved to be an invaluable experience for me.

The COVID 19 lockdown presented challenges, but I have been able to initiate and support multiple digital marketing projects from various disciplines and helped lead DanceXchange path through those challenges. In addition to this, I am also an apprentice ambassador at Creative Alliance, reaching out to prospective apprentices with a series of inspirational talks and leading workshops sharing my experience. Altogether this has been rewarding as well as a brilliant learning experience that has furthered my progression in digital marketing and an advocate for apprenticeships.
